Gardasil 9 is a vaccine designed to protect against nine types of human papillomavirus (HPV). It is an updated version of Gardasil 4 and provides broader protection against HPV-related diseases, including cancers and genital warts.
Prevention of Cervical Cancer: Gardasil 9 protects against HPV types 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58, which together cause about 90% of cervical cancer cases.
Prevention of Genital Warts: The vaccine also protects against HPV types 6 and 11, which are responsible for approximately 90% of genital warts.
Prevention of Other HPV-Related Cancers: Gardasil 9 provides protection against cancers of the vulva, vagina, anus, penis, and oropharynx (throat), all of which can be caused by the high-risk HPV types covered by the vaccine.
Prevention of Precancerous Lesions: The vaccine helps prevent precancerous lesions in the cervix (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia or CIN), vulva, vagina, and anus.
