Menactra is a conjugate vaccine used to protect against meningococcal disease caused by certain strains of the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis. This bacterium can lead to serious infections such as meningitis (inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord) and septicemia (blood poisoning).

Prevention of Meningococcal Disease: Menactra is primarily used to prevent infections caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. These strains are responsible for most cases of meningococcal disease.

High-Risk Populations: The vaccine is recommended for individuals at increased risk of meningococcal disease, including:
- Adolescents, especially those aged 11 to 18.
- College students living in dormitories.
- Military recruits.

- People with certain medical conditions, such as a damaged spleen or complement component deficiency.
