Anti Rho-D Immunoglobulin Injection 300mcg

Anti Rho-D Immunoglobulin Injection, also known as Rho(D) immune globulin, is a medication used to prevent Rh immunization, a condition where an Rh-negative individual develops antibodies against Rh-positive blood cells. It is typically administered as an intramuscular injection and contains 300 micrograms (mcg) of anti-D antibodies.

Active Ingredient:

  • Rho(D) immune globulin: These are antibodies that specifically target and neutralize Rh-positive red blood cells, preventing the immune system from mounting an immune response against them.

Uses:

  1. Prevention of Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN):

    • During Pregnancy: Administered to Rh-negative pregnant women during and after pregnancy if there is a risk of fetal-maternal hemorrhage (e.g., after amniocentesis, miscarriage, or abdominal trauma).
    • Postpartum: Given within 72 hours after the birth of an Rh-positive baby to an Rh-negative mother to prevent the mother from developing antibodies that could affect future pregnancies.
  2. Transfusion Medicine:

    • Incompatibility: Used in cases where Rh-negative individuals receive Rh-positive blood transfusions, helping to prevent an immune reaction and the production of anti-D antibodies.
  3. Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP):

    • Treatment: Occasionally used to treat ITP, a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys platelets. Rho(D) immune globulin can help increase platelet counts by preventing the destruction of Rh-positive red blood cells, thus sparing platelets.
