These include gastrointestinal infections such as amoebiasis and giardiasis, gynecological infections like bacterial vaginosis, respiratory tract infections, and infections caused by anaerobic bacteria. Metronidazole works by inhibiting the nucleic acid synthesis of microorganisms, leading to their death. It is effective against both anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites.
