Xylo Acino is a fast-acting nasal decongestant containing Xylometazoline Hydrochloride. It belongs to a group of medicines called sympathomimetics, which work by constricting (narrowing) the blood vessels in the nasal passages. Adults (0.1%): 1 spray or 2–3 drops in each nostril, up to 3 times daily.
Children 2–12 Years (0.05%): 1 spray or 1–2 drops in each nostril, once or twice daily (consult a doctor for exact frequency).
Maximum Duration: Do not use for more than 5 to 7 consecutive days.
Clear the Nose: Gently blow your nose before using the drops or spray.
Application (Drops): Tilt your head back. Instill the drops and stay in that position for a minute to allow the medicine to spread.
Application (Spray): Hold the bottle upright. Insert the nozzle into a nostril, spray once, and sniff gently at the same time.
Hygiene: Wipe the nozzle or dropper after each use. To prevent the spread of infection, the bottle should only be used by one person.
The most critical precaution with Xylo Acino is the limit on duration. Using the spray for longer than a week can cause rhinitis medicamentosa (rebound congestion). This is a condition where the nasal passages become permanently swollen and dependent on the spray to stay open, making the original congestion much worse.
