Standard Adult Dose: One (1) 70mg tablet once per week.
The "Weekly Routine": Pick one day of the week that fits your schedule best and take your tablet on that same day every week.
Missed Dose: If you forget, take the tablet on the morning after you remember. Do not take two tablets on the same day. Return to your original scheduled day the following week.
Because Alendronic Acid can be very irritating to the esophagus (food pipe), you must follow these instructions strictly:
Morning Only: Take the tablet first thing in the morning, immediately after getting out of bed.
Empty Stomach: Take it on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before your first food, drink, or other medications.
Water Only: Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass (at least 200ml) of plain water. Do not use mineral water, coffee, tea, or juice.
Stay Upright: After swallowing the tablet, do not lie down. You must stay fully upright (sitting, standing, or walking) for at least 30 minutes. Do not lie down until after you have eaten your first food of the day.
Digestive Issues: Do not take this medication if you have problems with your esophagus (such as narrowing or achalasia) or if you cannot stand or sit upright for 30 minutes.
Calcium Levels: Low blood calcium (hypocalcemia) must be treated before starting Alendronic Acid.
Dental Health: In rare cases, this medicine can cause "osteonecrosis of the jaw." It is recommended to have a dental check-up before starting treatment and to maintain good oral hygiene. Tell your dentist you are taking a bisphosphonate.
Kidney Function: Not recommended for patients with severe kidney impairment.
Atypical Fractures: Report any new or unusual thigh, hip, or groin pain to our pharmacist immediately.
