Leucorin contains Calcium Folinate (also known as Leucovorin Calcium), which is an active form of Vitamin B9. It works as a cytoprotective (cell-protecting) agent. In cancer care, it acts as an antidote to neutralize the toxic effects of specific chemotherapy medications. It helps rescue healthy, rapidly dividing cells (like those in the bone marrow and digestive tract) from severe damage without reducing the anti-tumor effectiveness of the treatment.
Leucovorin Rescue: Minimising toxicity and counteracting the effects of high-dose Methotrexate therapy.
Megaloblastic Anemia: Treating folate-deficiency anemias when oral folic acid therapy is not effective or suitable.
Toxicity Prevention: Managing accidental overdoses of folic acid antagonists (such as Methotrexate, Pyrimethamine, or Trimethoprim).

💡 Timing is critical. For chemotherapy rescue, Leucorin must be taken exactly at the scheduled times prescribed by your oncologist.
Calcium Folinate (equivalent to Folinic Acid): A fully active form of 5-formyltetrahydrofolate that bypasses the metabolic block caused by folate-antagonist drugs.
Leucorin is generally well tolerated as it is a vitamin derivative. Rare side effects may include mild allergic reactions (such as skin rash, hives, or itching), gastrointestinal disturbances, or sleep disturbances at very high doses. If you experience unexpected wheezing or facial swelling, seek immediate medical attention.
Is Leucorin the same as regular Folic Acid?
No. Regular folic acid must be converted by an enzyme in the body to become active. Chemotherapy drugs like Methotrexate block this enzyme. Leucorin is already in the active form, so it bypasses this block completely to protect your cells.
Can I take it at any time during my chemo cycle?
No. It must be taken precisely according to your oncologist's schedule. Taking it too early can interfere with the chemotherapy's ability to kill cancer cells, while taking it too late reduces its ability to protect your healthy cells.
Should I take it with food?
